Children In Need 2010 - £500k+ by text!

Charlie and Paul and some of the
Children in Need Team at BT Tower
Well this blog is one year old, and this is my last post as an IMI/WIN team member, but a great one to end on.

As many of you would have been aware we were assisting Children in Need with text donations this year. Charlie and I were in the BT Tower on Friday evening till the show finished at 2am, supporting the Children in Need team with live updates on the donations. On Friday the text to donate service was mainly used to support the outside broadcast events, with promotion on large screens at the venues - we got a steady flow of donations amounting to around £90,000 during the evening.

Saturday afternoon at 5:30 the BBC showed a highlights show of the best bits from Children In Need (available on iPlayer, here, for next week or so). As all the call centres were now closed this show just featured text donations. There was a promo (top left) through out the show, plus calls to action by JLS. This show saw a massive spike in donations, with the platform handling 1000+ donations a minute at peak. The total raised shot up to over £450,000 and adding in the money raised during the One Show in the run up IMI/WIN will have assisted in collecting over £500,000. Which I think is a pretty fantastic total that everyone at IMI/WIN should be very proud of, thanks to the many people that helped support the event.

Out and about and need to record at home?

If you have Sky TV you can use one of the best mobile apps out there - Sky Remote Record. The application is available for a variety of platforms, including iPhone, Android and Symbian, but is even supported via SMS.

With all the methods you do need to register for the service on the Sky.com. If you have an iPhone you will need to visit the iTunes Store, but for other devices you can simply visit http://p.wecomm.com/sky on your mobile.

To record a program just select a genre, I chose Entertainment. You are then presented with a view very similar to the normal Sky EPG. In the pic I have turned my phone to landscape to get a fuller view.

Choose the program you would like to record by clicking on it, you then get a summary of the program. On the summary page you simply click on "Record". This request is sent from the app to Sky, they then send it to their satelite and then down through the satelite tranmission to your set top box.

And that is, great user experience. But even if you dont have a whizzy phone you can even record via SMS, see below.

I am not aware of other providers doing similar, but I am a Sky subcriber, so if you have Virgin / BT Vision etc let us know via the comments.

To Set Up a Recording via SMS
Compose an SMS in the following format, separating each section with a full stop: Programme title. Channel (name or number). Date DD/MM. Time HH:HH e.g. Lost. Sky1. 18/02. 22:00

Send this SMS to 61759 (61SKY) if you are a UK customer, or 53759 (53SKY) if you are an ROI customer

You'll receive a message to let you know your request has been sent to your Sky+ or Sky+HD box. Each confirmation using this method costs 25p/€0.50.

PayPal Mobile payments growing in the UK

Apparently more than one million people in the UK have used PayPal to make a payment or send money from their mobile phones. Month-on-month mobile transactions on the service were up 20% in July and August this year in the UK, with customers making an average of five mobile transactions a month.

PayPal had already said that it expects to see $700 million of mobile payments go through its system globally this year.

PayPal currently has apps available for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry devices.

What's the noise about HD Voice?

What is it?

Orange HD Voice provides clearer calls by cutting out background noise. They say its the biggest revolution in phone calls for 20 years. It should be particularly useful to radio stations, improving the quality of remote interviews, and providing an invaluable service to those working in noisy environments.

How does it work?

HD Voice uses Adaptive Multi Rate Wideband (ARM-WB). Currently only a small part of your voice is transmitted on a normal mobile call. HD promises to use a lot more of your speech. Instead of transmitting the whole waveform, intelligent algorithms look for consecutive sections of speech that are similar, then, if two sections are alike, the redundant information is stripped out, allowing the signal to be compressed.

When can I get it?

HD Voice has been out in Germany for a while and is now available throughout the UK on the Orange network. It's free on HD Voice enabled handsets that sport the HD Voice logo (above). Nokia and Samsung have been the first to launch, with the Nokia 5230, X6 and E5, and the Samsung Omnia Pro - ok so not many yet, but more will launch soon.

Farmville coming to mobile?

The leading games developer for Facebook, Zynga, has recently bought German HTML5 specialist Dextrose AG. So what does that mean? Well they will be able to run rich programmes on both web and mobile browsers. This could save Zynga lots of development time and effort, and broaden its channels to market by bringing it games to mobile and other devices.

Facebook games generally rely on Adobe Flash, which is only supported on a few phones running Android 2.2, but most including the latest iPhones do not support it. This means that you can't harvest your crops, or check on your Mafia on your mobile. This acquisition should allow Zynga to port games to the emerging standard HTML5, which will support a greater range of mobile devices, while still offering a rich user experience. This could see even more mobile Internet traffic for the already dominant Facebook.

Who is winning the browser war?

Looking at the statistics provided by comScore MobiLens (July 2010), one can see that while the iPhone is a large slice of the browsers at 29.6%, Nokia (using the Symbian OS) is still delivers the largest slice of mobile internet traffic at 37.3.

Also of note is the rapid growth of Android, already at 10% in July nearly doubling from a year earlier, I think that by year end it will have increases substantially due to new handset releases.

What is also noteworthy is the huge differences between some countries in Europe, here Nokia remains much more dominant. This should be remembered when working with clients who's users are across Europe.

Going Mobile on the Underground?

Boris Johnson, London Mayor, has stepped in the protracted discussions to provide mobile phone coverage on the underground in time for the 2012 London Olympics.

The operators had complained that they would not see any ROI for building the necessary infrastructure. Boris has apparently twisted appropriate arms, and we will now see Vodafone, O2, Orange, T-Mobile and 3 bearing the £100 million, or more, costs.

The plan is to deploy transmitters threaded along the roof of the London Underground's 112 miles of tunnels, with antennas placed at the end of each train carriage.

Boris has informed the five operators that he wants to see the entire Underground with coverage by the time of the games, and that the project should be funded by all the mobile operators, as against raising tube fares or sourcing money through taxpayers.

BBM, the new kid on the block.

Blackberry Messenger, otherwise known as BBM, is known to many as a chat tool for kids – but are marketers and companies missing it’s true potential?

Lets start with briefly running through the key features of BBM. The main benefit is that it provides a FREE service globally (excluding roaming charges) for unlimited character text messages, picture messages, and voice notes, with real-time confirmation when messages are delivered and read. And there are quirky features, including the option to allow friends to see what music you are currently listening to...

You can personalise your profile by choosing your own user name and adding a photo and selectively add friends by typing in their ‘PIN’ or scanning their personal QR code. BBM then allows you to create ‘categories’ to help organise your friend list or ‘groups’ for specific friends to engage privately. You can then broadcast messages to everyone or these specific categories/ group.

This multi-chat feature to can be used to make plans with groups of friends, or even to communicate with work colleagues during conferences, making sure you’re on the same page and fill those who aren’t there in, discretely. Sticking with the business theme, the QR codes can be used to add contacts quickly to a secure location at networking events, with profiles able to contain mobile/work numbers, email, twitter, addresses etc... Try adding me here if you’re on BBM by scanning the barcode (I may refuse you)!

On a social media level, this opens up a new channel for music artists and celebs that’s even more instant than facebook or twitter. Kiss FM have demonstrated this in their BBM Breakfast club, allowing fans of the station to engage more closely for exclusive news and competitions.

In the US, BBM has been embraced fully by celebrity culture, resulting in the recent “BBM Lounge Party” events being run in LA. The concept being that free VIP passes to the BBM Lounge Event (hosted by Research In Motion's BlackBerry and Xomad) are given away by scanning a BlackBerry barcode in, to enter a special group by a certain date. They select the winner at random. First 29 to enter are eligible to win VIP entry in “The BBM Lounge” embracing the instant nature of the BBM tool. The campaign kicked off in August 2010, with a party taking place each month. So far celebs have included, David Beckham, Neyo, Flo-Rida, Sean Kingston, Akon, Ryan Phillipe, and Mekhi Phifer.

With more than 25 million users of BBM, here’s an eye-opening stat to end on... During the final of the 2010 World Cup between the Netherlands and Spain, Spain’s Midfielder Andrés Iniesta scored the winning goal only three minutes before the end of extra-time, which as the lone goal of the match crowned Spain Champions of the tournament.  At the time of this exciting goal, that was viewed around the world, BlackBerry Messenger traffic increased immediately by 280% as virtual communities of fans shared their reactions through BBM!

So it looks like it is time to incorporate BBM into the marketing mix.

Text for Heroes this weekend

This weekend WIN plc are providing the text donation route for the Help for Heroes Concert at Twickenham Stadium. This looks like a fantastic event, headlined by Robbie Williams and featuring acts such as Tom Jones, Alexandra Burke, The Saturdays and a host of others all in support of the Help for Heroes charity.

To make a £5 donation visitors simply text HERO to 70100, WIN have managed to secure 100% outpayments for the event from all our operator partners. The details for text donation are also appearing in the event press adverts and web site.

If you want to watch the concert there are still a few tickets available, or you can always enjoy it on the BBC on Sunday night from 8pm - and don't forget to tell your friends to make a donation too.

Well done to everyone involved with getting this up and running in a very short time.

Are you an Angry Fan?

I know that there are lots of fans of the iPhone game Angry Birds, and the good news is this highly addictive game is coming to Android, albeit in a 'Lite Beta' version.

Having sold 6.5 million copies on Apple's App Store, the release is the first stage of Rovio's (the publisher for the Android version) attempt to repeat the success on Android, with a paid version of the game due to launch soon.

The game's launch was accompanied by a mini-controversy over name-squatting, thanks to an existing Android app called Angry Birds, which is a practical-joke app. That app has since been renamed as Angry Birds Joke, leaving the way clear for Rovio's paid version.

Do you play? How did you get on? Why is this game so additive? Please share your thoughts.

What the Foursquare is it all about?

So what is this Foursquare thing all about? Well its an emerging social media service that allows you to "check in" to locations as you visit them in the physical world.

The service is available on as iPhone, Android and Blackberry apps stores or for Nokia and Windows check out the Foursquare site, here.

The application mainly relies on the built in GPS functionality of modern handsets to locate you, and relate that to the venues it holds on its database. You are only able to "check in" to a location if you are near it. User can also add locations that are not present, a great example of crowdsourcing.

As can be seen in the screen grab, I "checked in" to WIN before writing this, and you can also see the last few places I visited. Now in itself this may not sound that interesting, but the service is rapidly evolving and already has 3M users and its influence is seen as key in the launch of Facebook Places, another social location service that lauched very recently in the USA.

Foursquare also applies an open API policy that encourages other to develop complimentary / mash-up applications, these include dating, cab sharing and even a nearest free loos service.

People's competitive nature is targeted through the use of collectable badges. You earn badges but conduting a variety of activities often targeted around frequency of use. This helps stimulate repeat usage, your first "check in" earns you the Newbie badge.

Now that Foursquare is getting increased usage it has introduced Foursquare for Business. This involves partnering with local venues - bars and cafes for example - to offer special deals to users of the service. Earlier this year Domino's Pizza launched a nationwide promotion offering free pizza to users; more here.

The most recent example would be the MTV Video Music Awards promotion - it's a contest to win a trip for two to the event next month. Fans are asked to follow MTV's profile on Foursquare, then "check in" to any music venue in the next week. For doing that, they'll get a dedicated MTV VMA Moonman badge for their virtual collection, while being entered into the prize draw.

There is an opportunity is to engineer our APIs to service this rapidly evolving, predominatly mobile, open API world. Can we provide pay via mobile services for advertisers? How can we monetise the latest smart pipe enablers that operators are introducing into the market?

Oh and if you should join Foursquare, then my id is: http://foursquare.com/user/paulswaddle.

Preventing O2 spinning

In July O2 announced the extension of the sim-only Simplicity tariffs to Pay & Go customers.

Simplicity on Pay & Go starts with unlimited texts for £5 per month, then unlimited texts and a choice of either unlimited web or inclusive cross net calls at £10 and £15 per month. At £20 customers receive unlimited texts, unlimited Web and inclusive minutes.

We have been involved in the Simplicity acquisition project providing a shortcode based fulfilment process. The aim of this project was to try and drive down the amount of “Spinning” they experience when advertising free SIMs for new Tariffs. Spinning is where an existing Pay & Go customer orders a new SIM and throws their old one away rather than migrating tariff. WIN implemented a new process which identified existing Pay & Go customers who requested new SIMs and asked them if they would like to transfer tariff rather than have new SIMs.

In brief customers go through the following flow to order new SIMS:
  • Customer sends in a keyword after seeing and O2 advert
  • Customer asked to text name, address and postcode
  • Postcode validation takes place, and then full PAF address validation takes place, so we know it’s a valid address.
  • Existing O2 P&G customers are given the opportunity to switch onto a Simplicity tariff rather than getting new SIMS.
  • And Customers who are already on a Simplicity tariff are given the opportunity to switch to another Simplicity tariff.
  • New SIMs are put in the post to all non 02 customers, and 02 customer that don’t switch by SMS reply.
This SIM pack fulfilment process could also be used for any product, marketing literature or sample fulfilment, if you would like ideas about how your clients could use it just ask.

If you would like to try the process for yourself simply text STARSIM to 61202.

Are you close enought? .... NFC Payments

What is NFC?

NFC, Near Field Communication, is a contactless communication technology which enables data to be sent between devices at about a 10 centimetre distance. NFC is a smart card and a reader, which enables two way communication. The best way to think of NFC is being like Bluetooth, but without the headache of finding other devices as this is done automatically when the devices get close enough to each other.

What can NFC be used for?
Debit cards with NFC are already being used by Barclaycard to make contactless payments. As well as payments, NFC can be used for travel/ticketing e.g. Oyster cards. NFC could also be used for loyalty cards, to read smart posters, download content and also share business cards.

How would I use NFC for payment?
Well, you may want to make a payment to a taxi driver or in a shop for payment of goods. You would put your device next to theirs (which could be a mobile phone or a reader). You would then establish a connection and conduct the transaction.

Is NFC another technological fad?
There is a lot of interest from big players, such as the big American Telecoms companies, who are thinking how it could be used in the mobile payment eco-system. Also, Apple has been filing patents on all the obvious applications that exist for example home controller, a retail scanner and even ticketing. Ultimately, It is down to the consumer how well these technologies will succeed and an important question from the their viewpoint is how secure NFC will be.

Coke Zone

As some people may know I like the odd diet coke or two... so this week I though I would highlight the work Coca Cola has being doing in the mobile CRM space. Coke has been operating its Coke Zone promotion since early 2008 and has given out more than 30,000 rewards and received more than 900,000 prize-draw entries.

To get started go to Coke Zone and sign up. It's simple to get started and you receive a 2 point bonus as a thank you for registering, so that's a nice way to kick things off!  Coke products contain a code with a varying points value. A can will give you 1 point, a 500ml bottle will give you 2 points, a 2litre bottle will give you 3 points, and a multi-pack of 6 cans will give you 6 points. On cans the code is underneath the ringpull (but only flashed cans), on bottles the code is printed onto the plastic underneath the label, on multi-packs of cans the code will be printed on a cardboard slip inside the packaging. Code can be texted in, entered on the mobile site, or web.

While the main site offers the full selection of rewards, you are also able to redeem some rewards straight from the mobile site, including a variety of mobile content. Rewards range from 2 for a prize draw entry, to 1200 points for a PSP or laptop.

Coke have been using the sms channel to not only receive codes, but also to promote product and interact with consumers. When coke zero was launched they promoted it to male diet coke consumers by sms, and they have also conducted sms based market research. Coke continue to explore the mobile space, and have recently launched an augmented reality product for their Fanta brand in the US, and are running a UK campaign giving users free mobile credit.

Perhaps KL and Athens could confirm if there are similar campaigns running locally.

WIN and iPad...

WIN have built the interface used by 3G iPad customers who chose O2 as their service provider. WIN’s pages allow customers to register or create an account and then purchase a one off or recurring data bundle allowing them to browse the internet using O2’s 3G network when they are not in WIFI coverage.

Customers can view their account, change their card details or change bundles by accessing their Account Overview completing the necessary action.

O2 were the only Operator to launch the full solution in terms of the ability to manage your account and choose recurring bundles.

As part of the solution WIN provide e-mail receipts to customers when completing a transaction or changing their account details. WIN also deliver Flash SMS messages to the device that pop up provide information such as your data plan has been updated or you are running low on your balance.

m-Commerce - Amazon Mobile hits $1 Billion

Amazon announced Friday that its revenue from mobile sales had passed $1 billion per year (total sales are $6.57 billion) – most of which came from smartphones, particularly the iPhone. So what are Amazon doing to drive sales?

Amazon has it’s own application for all the major smartphone platforms, plus very effective mobile internet site. Whether you’re on an iPhone, Android, Blackberry or Nokia, you can access an optimised mobile site where you can search and buy products. Amazon has as utlised other mobile technologies in its US application, with built in scanning feature it will recognise and search for that product – so if you see something that in store can scan it, check the Amazon price, and buy it all over your phone.
Amazon realised if a mobile app isn’t as easy to use as your website, you wont use it. So they took the 1-Click payment system from the main site and made sure it worked in the mobile application. So once you’ve set up your account, you can make an order over your mobile just as easily as you can on the web.

Not the only fruit....

Less than two years after Google opened its Android Market application store, consumers have now apparently downloaded more than one billion apps to their phones (according to estimates from analytics provider AndroLib.com).

Although Android store is still far behind Apple's rival App Store, which recently topped 5 billion downloads, interest in Android is clearly on the up.The report boasts about 92,000 applications, showing rapid growth, and is on pace to hit 100,000  by the end of the month. Developers have already submitted over 10,000 new applications through the first 15 days of July, compared to 15,000 new Android apps in all of June. An increase in volume, but perhaps not quality.

Last week, Google introduced App Inventor for Android, a free software tool enabling users to create their own Android applications regardless of previous programming experience - I have signed up and expect to see my efforts in future weeks. Under development for a year and tested in environments including a variety of schools, App Inventor for Android does not rely on conventional coding - instead, consumers visually design the application's appearance, using blocks to specify its behavior.

100M plays a day on Mobile YouTube

YouTube has just relaunched its mobile site. The impovements include faster downloads and a more touch-friendly interface. The mobile site also includes more features, including search query suggestions, playlist and favourites - making it more like its full web big brother.

According to YouTube it is seeing more than 100 million video plays a day from mobile users. So it looks like users like video via mobile.

YouTube has said that it will now be able to roll out new web features more quickly to the mobile site and that this will not be the case with YouTube native applications which will not be updated as frequently. The site requires a handset with a HTML5 browser.

iPhones users on visiting the site are being invited to set it up as a homepage bookmark, which could spur users to switch from the preloaded native app.

You can try the site at m.youtube.com, but dont forget video will eat up your data allowance, so best make sure you are on an large data bundle.

BBC Wildlife Fund

On June 20 the BBC Wild campaign that started in mid May came to a conclusion with a "Wild Night In". BBC Wild Campaign is a fundraising season along the lines of BBC Children in Need and Comic Relief aimed at supporting Wildlife charities.

Wild Night In promoted the keyword WILD on shortcode 70700 on the Sunday show and a mid week repeat. Also had the text number on the website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/wild/donate/)  and got over 15,000 donations and collected over £75,000.

They raised over a million in total but mobile was a late addition and not heavily pushed, hopefully we can do more similar projects with BBC charities in the future.

Wimbledon - Augmented Reality App

With England's Britain's hopes still alive at Wimbledon I thought we would take a look at an Augment Reality application specifically built for the tennis. But first what is Augmented Reality? AR is the enhancement of a view of the 'real' world by overlaying digital information. Think of the the cyborgs view from Terminator, where the computer overlays information on the live images it is seeing. In the movie this allows contextual information to augment the reality being seen - AR. Clearer? Well lets look at the tennis application.

IBM Seer, which is available for android and iPhone, is an AR application specifically developed for the Wimbledon Tournament. The application was first launched last year, and this year has been enhanced and made available on the iPhone.

The application gives you the ability to point your phone at Centre, Court One or Court Two and literally see through the wall, as live play from inside  appears on your phone. In addition, you’ll be able to see the length of the taxi queues, or what’s happening on ‘Henman Hill’ even when you may be on the other side of the grounds! I think its pretty cool.

World TeleMedia 2010

World Telemedia is the only European event looking at making money from premium content and services – linking the power of the media and marketing with network billing collection & delivery. This year WIN where a Silver Sponsor at the event in Malta, with Matt Winters and Paul Swaddle attending from the UK, and Lily Xenou and Eliza Patsalide from the Greek office. The event was also attended by many of our competitors, Operators, AIME and PP+, but more importantly a number of our key and prospective customers.

Matt Winters kicked off the conference by representing WIN on the first panel of the event. The panel discussed issues around billing and marketing of a variety of SMS billed services, including the emerging market of Psychic TV channels. Matt was complimented by a number of delegates on his thoughtful contribution and knowledge of the PSMS market - well done Matt.

WIN's sponsorship centred around a sponsored drinks event on the first full evening of the conference. The bar staff wore Quins RL shirts which looked great, and helped increase our brand presence beyond that provided as part of our sponsorship package.

We ran a prize draw for all visitors to our drinks reception. Everyone was asked to put their business card into the draw, these were collected by Eliza, who made sure that everyone was in the draw and more importantly we had everyone's contact details.

The winner of the draw is being notified today, as well as email going to the unlucky participants - a great opportunity to remind them of WIN's services.

Matt is following up on the UK leads while Lily and Eliza are now busy following up on the Greek leads from the event. Watch out for updates in WIN Bytes over the coming weeks.

Empowering the Charitable Sector with Interactive Technology

WIN were a sponsor of the recent Empowering the Charitable Sector with Interactive Technology Seminar in London run by AIME (Association for Interactive Media and Entertainment) . The event was attended by a large variety of charities from the biggest and best known to small local charities.

I gave a presentation on WIN's approach to charities, and how we are enabling this emerging donation mechanic. From our leading the industry with the Tsunami Appeal in 2004, through the first electronic Poppy in 2005, and more recently our involvement with the Mobile Data Association to improve payouts from all Operators in the UK. The full presentation can by found on Slideshare.

Other speakers included a keynote presentation from Caroline Lien of Comic Relief, who spoke about their experiences, highlighting that 10% of all their donations were now being raised by SMS, a total of nearly £10M accross Comic and Sports relief. Caroline's and other presentation from the day can be found here.

Byte Night... Will you sleep out for Charity?

Slightly off topic today, but all for a good cause. WIN plc are supporting Byte Night 2010 and I need your help.

Byte Night is the Technology industry’s annual sleep out in support of Action for Children. Each year hundreds of individuals and teams from across the Technology and business community spend a night exposed to the elements in a bid to raise sponsorship and awareness of Action for Children’s work.

It all began 12 years ago when 30 individuals from the Technology industry slept out and raised £35,000. Since then the event has grown to over 700 sleepers raising almost £550,000 in 2009 alone. Patrons, sponsors and sleepers include celebrities and leading figures, CIOs, systems developers, business managers, marketers and more.

So what are WIN doing? Well Graham Rivers and myself are forming a team - and we need three volunteers to join us. We are ideally looking for three WINners from different departments within WIN so that we can have some competition between departments on our fundraising goal - to raise over £3000.

Interested? Well here are a few more details; the event takes place on 8 Oct at Thames Valley Park, and the Team will sleep out from 11pm until 6am along with hundreds of other people. If you would like to get involved email me or pop over for a chat.

Once we have the Team together we will let everyone know how they can help support the WIN team in our fund raising efforts.

To App or not to App....not say M&S

Marks and Spencers, the retail of choice for everything from underwear through to food has plunged into mobile. But unlike many others they have NOT launched an app. Customers can now shop on a site that has been developed specifically to enable them to browse and buy easily from any web-enabled mobile phone.

The site syncs with the main M&S website so that customers can log into their regular web-account and manage their shopping basket from their mobile. There is no need to download an app or any software, users simply type http://www.marksandspencer.com/ into their phone’s Internet browser, and end up on m.marksandspencer.com.

The market is seeing a number of websites taking this approach, as it means they only have a single site to maintain. Another approach sees sites having a mobile application that is little more than a phone desktop link to the mobile site.

Ultimately it will be consumers that decide which approach is a winner.

WIN are able to support clients who want to take this approach by offering consultancy around the design and functionality of the site.

‘ask anything' service from Maureen 118212

WIN are powering Maureen 118212, one of a number of directory enquiry services in the UK. This is a partnership between KC Contact Centres and WIN. KCom are using our console solution to receive the text enquiries, and then answer the query.

Where WIN comes into play is by providing a content management solution, which provides KC Contact Centres with back-office administration and content moderation. WIN's technology also enables operators to provide greater customer support by storing callers' questions as well as the answers delivered to them by the contact centre.  This way, operators are well-equipped with the caller's enquiry history and able to provide them with relevant and informative customer service at any time. WIN is also providing the SMS delivery platform which will process all responses and sends the SMS messages out to the customers.

So lets give it a go...

First choose a question, in principle anything. You then text the question to 118212 (same as the voicedial). And await an answer.

After a short while you should get the answer back, well it seems to have worked for me. If you want to find out more about the service then have a chat with Martin King.

AdMob Metrics

Well it was a busy week for me last week, so just a short update this week. Some of you may have heard of AdMob, they are primarily a mobile advertising provider and have recently been bought by Google. In a future post I will talk about some of the capabilities of the AdMob advertising service but today I just wanted to highlight there monthly Mobile Metrics report.

Admob Mobile Metrics report offers a snapshot of the data captured for ad serving and use this to provide insight into trends in the mobile ecosystem.

This months report looks at the rise of different android handsets in the market place. But do remember when reading the report(s) that they only reflect the traffic on the ad network, not the whole market place.

Read the full report here: March Report
